Curriculum
Textbook:
Jan A. Audestad, “Technologies and Systems for Access and Transport Networks”, Artech House (2008). Available at SiT Tapir. You can also visit SiT Tapir's Gløshaugen bookshop.
Recommended additional literature:
Anders Olsson, “Understanding Changing Telecommunications: Building a Successful Telecom Business”, John Wiley & Sons, 2004.
Comment by Audestad:
“This book is recommended as supplementary literature in this and several other courses in telematics, in particular TTM4165 ICT, Organisation and Market. The book does not cover the curriculum of TTM4105 in sufficient detail to be used as the only course literature: the compendium is intended for that purpose. The book is particularly valuable as an easy reference handbook for the telecommunications engineer providing an excellent overview of the complete telecommunications area. The book is concerned with the complex interrelationship between terminals, technologies, networks, operations, and business models with particular focus on IP and 3G. This is the first book I have found that covers all these items in a single text.”
Telecommunications standards
The standardisation in all fields of telecommunications is done by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). All valid ITU standards concerning the telecommunications network can be downloaded free of charge on this link.
