  • 1990: Diploma degree in Computer Science at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
  • 1990-1999: Researcher at the University of Dortmund, Germany.
  • 1997: Doctorate (rerum naturalis) with a doctoral thesis on “Problem-Oriented Correctness-Guaranteeing Design of High-Speed Communication Protocols”.
  • 2001-2005: Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Dortmund, Germany.
  • Since 2005: Professor on Formal Methods, Service Engineering, and Trust Management at the Department of Telematics of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.
  • 2013-2014 and 2015: Visiting professor at the Australia-India Research Centre for Automation Software Engineering (AICAUSE) of the RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.


  • 2016: Best Paper Award at the 11th International Conference on Evaluation of Novel Approaches to Software Engineering (ENASE 2016) for the article A Methodology for Model-based Development and Safety Analysis of Transport Systems co-authored with Simon Hordvik, Kristoffer Øseth, and Jan Olaf Blech.
  • 2015: The Department of Telematics, with Frank Kraemer, Peter Herrmann, Finn Arve Aagesen and Øivind Kure, was awared the prize of learning environment of the year 2015 (Årets læringsmiljø 2015) at the IME Faculty annual party that was held on March 9, 2016. This prize rewards their effort and commitment in trying out new methods to promote student learning, and in particular Team-Based Learning (TBL).
  • 2014: Best-Track Paper Award of the Special Track on Reliability Technologies and Tools for Services-Based Systems at 2014 Asia-Pacific Services Computing Conference (APSCC) for the article A Model-based Toolchain to Verify Spatial Behavior co-authored with Jan Olaf Blech, Fenglin Han, and Heinz Schmidt.
  • 1999-2001: Two years stipendium for a postdoctoral researcher in the postgraduate research program “Modelling and Model-Based Design of Complex Technological Systems” of the University of Dortmund.


  • Participant and member of the steering committee of the former Working Group “Trust Management in Dynamic Open Systems” (iTrust) funded by the European Commission within the program “Information Society Technologies” as a Concerted Action / Thematic Network.
  • Member of the IFIP Working Group 11.11 on Trust Management.
