Trondheim and NTNU

Trondheim is a charming Norwegian city and a major center for Norwegian education and student activity. Trondheim is rich in history, being a central place for the Viking kings of the middle ages and later for trade and then modern technological developments. The entire city center may be crossed within a 15 minute walk. See the city official website for more details (www.trondheim.com).

NTNU is Norway’s premier academic institution for technology and natural sciences. Its Gløshaugen Campus, where the course will be given, is just outside the city center. See the university website for more information about it (http://www.ntnu.no/english).

Trondheim airport (http://www.avinor.no/en/airport/trondheim) is served by direct flights to connection hubs in Europe such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen, as well as to a number of other European cities.

The airport shuttle (“Flybussen”) to the center of the city corresponds with all flight arrivals, and is the easiest (and cheapest) way to get to the city. It takes about 40 minutes. The shuttles are lined up in the street just outside the arrival terminal. Tickets are purchased after boarding the bus, and the fare is currently NOK 90 (major credit cards accepted). On its route it passes most major hotels in city. Ask the driver for guidance when you purchase your ticket.

How to Get Here

The lecturers will be given in Room B-333, Electro building (outside which there is a “blue train”), Gløshaugen Campus, NTNU. Once getting into the building, you will easily find a block map on the side wall, from which, you can find Block B where Room B-333 is located on the 3rd floor.

The distance between the city center and the campus Gløshaugen is approx. 2-3 km. The local bus lines 5 (marked Dragvoll) and 52 (marked Vestlia) serve the campus. The bus ticket costs NOK 30. Student Samfundet is the closest stop to Gløshaugen Campus. There is a 400 m walk from Samfundet stop to Gløshaugen Campus.

It is highly recommended to do some pre-reading before coming to the class. See the “Course Schedule” page for recommended reading material of each topic. In addition, the “Reading List” may also be used for the purpose.
